Calibration Procedure for Electronics on Muon Lifetime

Use the DG535 digital Pulser and the Power Splitter ZSCJ-2-1.

Setup the DG535 as follows: (Manual available on 111-Lab Network Drive.) or The manual is available online: http://www.thinksrs.com/downloads/PDFs/Manuals/DG535m.pdf.

  • TRIG:
  • INT
  • Rate = 20kHz

Step through the delay menu setting the following settings;

  • Delay =
  • A =T+ 0.000001 ( 1usec)
  • B=A+ 0.000000150 (150nsec)
  • C=T+ 0.000000250 ( 250nsec)
  • D=C+ 0.000000250 (250nsec)

Step through the Output menu setting the following settings;

  • OUTPUTS =
  • TO: = Load = 50 ohms
  • Select VAR
  • TO: Amplitude = +2.00V
  • Offset = 0.00V
  • TO: = BUR
  • Rate = 10kHz
  • Pulse/Burst = 10
  • Period/Burst = 20
  • Slope = +/-
  • EXT:
  • Threshold = +1.00V
  • Trigger Term = HighZ
  • A: Load = 50 ohms
  • Select VAR
  • A: Amplitude = +2.00V
  • A: Offset = 0.00V
  • B: Load = 50 ohms
  • Select VAR
  • B: Amplitude = +2.00V
  • Offset = 0.00V
  • AB&-AB: Loads = HighZ
  • Select VAR
  • AB: Amplitude = + 2.00 V
  • AB: Offset = 0.00V
  • C: Load = HighZ
  • Select VAR
  • C: Amplitude = +2.00V
  • C: Offset = 0.00V
  • D: Load = HighZ
  • Select VAR
  • D: Amplitude = +1.00V
  • D: Offset = 0.00V
  • CD&-CD = Loads = HighZ

NOTE: Do Not Set Offset negative or great than 0 Volts, You will blow out and damage the amplifier.

Setup of cable Hookup for Calibration Run

  • Output of DG535 Pulser “AB Plus” hooked to the Power splitter input label 2
  • Muon signals through the amplifier at 40 dB and through the Inverter then to the power Splitter input label “1”.
  • Output of the Power Splitter output label “S” to the input channel #1of the Computer Digitizer Card NI-5114.
